So, the bootrom is recognized during the boot in the 486 board with a new bios. But if linux runs, I get errors from the card, and Win95 refuses to use the card at all. It complains about an incomplete installation of the driver, even if the installation itself works fine. I tried three different models of the card, so altogether, I think, the motherboard (PVI486SP3) and the bios (Award 3.06) are the guilty parts.
