I've had the same problem with an el cheapo NE2000 clone. I was burning an
8k image into an 2764, and since the card didn't supported 8k proms I've
set the card to 16k PROM size. After 2 days of hair pulling, I 've
configured by mistake the cord for 64k PROM's and voila! everything was
OK. It seems that some clones doesn't actually support 16k PROMs, so you
should try setting the card for 32k or 64k PROMs even you have a smaller
one. Anyway, it worked for me. BTW, the PROM was 200ns.
