I'm also not aware of a ready application to do this with CAN, however
I know that TCP/IP protocol stacks have been based upon CAN.

But here some basic information:
- Protocol for realtime exchange in critical applications
  (like engine management in cars)
- Excellent latencies (max ~130us at max. bus speed)
- Data length up to 8 bytes/telegram
- Extensive error detection and correction
- Used in multi-million volume (new cars may have >30 nodes)
- Maximum speed 1MBit/s at short distances
