I have seen it now and then, even on diskfull machines, e.g. during RH6.0 install via NFS. It seems be more likely to happen when the server is weaker than the client. This seems to be a weakness of the Linux NFS implementation. Try updating the NFS software from recent releases by HJ Lu.
