vmware & Etherboot

Has anybody got Etherboot to run in vmware (www.vmware.com)?  It emulates
an AMD PCNET ethernet adapter.  Etherboot claims to support it.  FreeBSD
Windows, Linux etc can work with it but Etherboot doesn't send out any
packets.  Doing BOOTP or DHCP requests over the virtual network adapter
does work since I have boot FreeBSD and Windows getting it via dhcpd on 
the host machine.

Etherboot reports transmit timeouts.
