Bob - you are right about what you need, in terms of BIOS support. There is only one PCMCIA card on the market with boot ROM support - the 3Com 575CT (sorry, I forget the letters that go on front of that...starts with 3C...). The only notebooks on the market today that have the required BIOS support seem to be the Dell Latitudes since about July / 2000. We have tried very recent IBMs (T21) - no go. They will be releasing one shortly (T22?) that will have this support. =========================== Steve Marfisi Manager, Technical Services Lanworks Technologies Co. 3Com Business Connectivity Group Phone: 905 602-3232 E-mail: steve_marfisi@3com.com =========================== Bob Edwards <Robert.Edwards@anu.edu.au> on 03/03/2001 07:17:41 AM Please respond to netboot@baghira.han.de Sent by: Bob Edwards <Robert.Edwards@anu.edu.au> To: netboot@baghira.han.de cc: (Steve Marfisi/US/3Com) Subject: Re: PCMCIA cards & etherboot Tom Watson wrote: > > I don't know if this has been brought up before or not, but... > > Has anyone done EtherBoot (or something similar) using a PCMCIA card > EtherNet adapter? > > I just got an (older) Pen computer (Fujitsu Stylistic 1000) that has > a 640x480 screen and pen based goodie, with VERY little disk space > (340 Mb to be exact), and NO software. I am not aware of any PCMCIA network cards with flash ROM in them. Even if they did exist, you would still need the machines BIOS to actually scan the PCMCIA card for the boot code - does your machine do this? If you have a 340MB disk, why not boot from that and then mount stuff you need using NFS? Cheers, Bob Edwards. =========================================================================== This Mail was sent to netboot mailing list by: Bob Edwards <Robert.Edwards@anu.edu.au> To get help about this list, send a mail with 'help' as the only string in it's body to majordomo@baghira.han.de.
