hi! i´ve got a net-terminal fitted with a DOC2000 12MB (Disk on Chip) from igel (some kind of Cyrix GX Hardware). originally the DOC contains a mini compressed linux with X and netscape. because of the slowness of the DOC and the compression algorithm i erased the linux from the DOC and turned it into a dos 7.0 hd. on bootup the DOC maps itself to address 0xdc00 in the expansion bios using a 8KB window of memory. i had to use some dos utilities to flash the DOC-firmware into the DOC. this firmware makes the DOC look like a normal 12MB HardDisk. first i booted from a 80MB HD with DOS and tried witch bootrom binary would work with the built in 100Mb Ethernet card. a 2.0.35 Linux kernel with PCI support reports an EEPRO100 ethernet card, but the bootrom eepro100.com cannot find an ethernet card. the cs89x0.com seems to do so (it reports, that it would try to conntect the server), but i cannot test because of the lack of an UTP hub. is it possible, that the cs89x0.com would work? second problem: when i copy all the stuff from the 80MB Hd to the DiskOnChip, boot from it and try to load the cs89x0.com bootrom, the hole machine crashes. i guess, the bootrom loader does some low level disk-operation, witch is not supported by the DOC firmware. does anybody know a workaround? another question: would it be possible to flash the bootrom direktly into the DOC instead of the DOC firmware? has the bootrom to be smaller than 8K to fit into the epansion bios memory-window? hope anybody can help, thank you ... clemens =========================================================================== This Mail was sent to netboot mailing list by: Clemens Kirchgatterer <clemens@root.at> To get help about this list, send a mail with 'help' as the only string in it's body to majordomo@baghira.han.de.
