Con't compile under FreeBSD 3.4-R

Hi All!
I'm have a FreeBSD-3.4-R box
And when i compile netboot-0.8.1
gmake send this message:

cannot open first.b: no such file

gmake: *** [all] Error 1

But when i run:
gmake clean
it's all ok

What happened?
