I experienced the same thing yesterday .... I installed new distribution and afte having set things up like before I got tftp timeout. I then discovered that sometimes $ init Q nor $ kill -HUP 1 does not what it should ... a goog old reboot fixed things up. For some reason tftp service was not starting ... even if it was not commented in inetd.conf.
